Softwares and Apps I Use Everyday As A Game Developer (With English Subtitles)

Hello friends, a very warm welcome to my channel In this video I will tell you that As a game developer which softwares I use And what tools I use Before we begin let me give a small background about myself My name is Nikhil Malankar And by profession I am a game developer I own a company named GameEon That I run full time in the city of Mumbai, India And under this company we work on client projects as well as make our own games And uhhh…. Basically all types of games Android, HTML5 and all types of games And with this I want to give information to all of you That what tools I use as a game developer Because a lot of you folks Want to enter this field of game development Many people are interested in this field And many of you don’t know what tools are used So I will give you my background About what tools I use And these tools I mention I use them on a daily day to day basis Might be possible that Some tools you may or may not use as a game developer But for me these tools have been proven to be very useful Let’s begin now without wasting any more time Make sure to watch the video from start to end so So that you don’t miss out on any information Let’s begin with the most basic and common tool That is named Unity Game Engine Now what is a game engine exactly? I have explained that in another video (mentioned in cards) But Unity Game Engine I use it on a day to day daily basis ASs we make all our games in this engine itself The biggest advantage of Unity is that Once you make a game in this engine Then you can easily port it to PC, Android, iOS platform, all 3 and more. You can easily port them without any difficulties This is the biggest speciality of Unity Game Engine Once you make a game Then you don’t have to spend much effort in porting your game This is why I use Unity everyday As my primary software/tool to make games One more software that I use a lot on a daily basis is GitHub Because I am a programmer I also handle programming in my company So GitHub manages all our source code Helps us organize our code Also helps us sync the code with each other GitHub is also free There are other alternatives like GitHub as well For example SourceTree, Gitlab and a lot of other alternatives Now let’s come to the next software That I use on a daily basis And that’s Photoshop Photoshop is extremely useful for game development You can make your game’s UI elements User interface, etc. To a certain extent even your animations Character animations would be a bit difficult though But anyway Photoshop is used on a day to day basis I personally use it as well Even for my YouTube thumbnails I use Adobe Photoshop Adobe Photoshop is licensed It’s a paid software It’s not available for free I own a licensed copy of Photoshop So if you want to use Photoshop Go to Adobe’s website Link is in the description Download from there, get the official copy Do not pirate it Now we will come There’s one more software If I am making HTML5 games then We use Construct 3 for them Currently we are not using this As we are not making any HTML5 games But at the time when we were making them I had also taken a license of Construct 3 It’s a very useful tool To make HTML5 games It’s light weight and works on browser So there’s no problem in terms of system specifications Now this was all game development related But along with these There are a lot of other tools as well that I use on a day to day basis For file transfer This part is very much important I think Personally for me because When I discovered this app I couldn’t imagine my life without this app This app’s name is AirDroid Basically what this app does is It enables you to transfer files over wifi So if you have any apk file If you want to transfer it to your phone If you want to test it May be you don’t have a USB cable May you are not able to connect your phone to the PC So if your phone and PC On which you made your game’s apk file If they are connected over the same wifi network Then just download AirDroid on your phone Then simply just take the IP address mentioned on AirDroid in your phone Enter that on your PC’s browser Then you can transfer files directly So it’s a very useful tool friends I use it everyday Because file transfer is always there Need to test apks as well If some times we miss something As I mentioned if we forget USB cable At that time this is an extremely life saving option So you also check out AirDroid Link is in the description AirDroid is extremely useful It saves you from the headache of Connecting with wires, etc Only thing you have to make sure is that Your phone and PC Should be connected to the same wifi network Then for mails The tool I use is GMail And the custom gameeon.in I have used mail forwarder And it’s Mail client has been configured with Gmail We don’t use GSuite Whatever setup we’ve done is mail forwarding and Inbox is configured with SMTP port settings has been configured by me Because of this I don’t require GSuite I have done everything And have manually configured it all Then another important tool is Android Studio Friends if you make a game for android Using Unity If you have made a game for Android In Unity you get all logs for your game If there is any error then you see it there…. Err…. If there is any error then you understand it then and there itself But when you transfer it to your android device Then you need to debug it There are two ways to do this You can either use adb logcat You will get all logs on console Or simpler way is that if you have Android Studio And if you have your phone in your phone connected in debug mode then in Android studio You will get all the logs there You can also search there That which part you need exactly So that’s pretty handy I personally use this way for debugging a lot Because it is extremely simple And there is no headache as such You don’t need to configure much Only make sure that your That your phone has debugging settings on Then connect it using a USB cable to your computer Once it’s connected to your PC And your Android Studio is on Then you will see all the logs over there And if your game is crashing somewhere Then you will get the exact reason via logcat This tool is extremely critical and extremely important Android Studio special and if you are Using iOS then Xcode is very useful for you Which brings me to my next software If I am making games for iOS then I use XCode for that Xcode is a framework similar to Android Studio In Xcode you take your build There is a xproject or xprojectworkspace file I don’t recollect the exact word But using that Configuring it with Xcode Connecting it with iPhone You can do testing from there So it’s very straightforward way to test your games on iOS If you want to run Xcode then you need a Mac device That brings me to my next points that Which laptop or PC do I use? Personally I am using MacBook Air 2017 It suffices my development purpose There are a lot of things already available in it For example If I want to use Excel sheets then There is Numbers app Word To use word files there is Pages app The video editing that I do Is done on iMovie So all these apps and softwares I use on a daily basis since I own a MacBook But if you have Windows then May be you might face some issues Many softwares that are there You may need to spend money for them Which is okay For Microsoft you need to take Microsoft Office and all I don’t use Microsoft Office I use Google Docs Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc. Notes, Keep Keep is an application where I organise my notes Whatever new ideas I get I make a Keep document As well as in MacBook There is a separate Notes app That also I use a lot If I want to create a task list of all the things I want to do in a day All of that I organise on Notes and keep If you want to stay more organised then There’s another amazing app called Trello In Trello you can Create work boards Work boards meaning If you want to plan a list of things to do in a day Then you create a board with 3 categories: To Do, Doing and Done Whatever tasks you have to do put them in “To Do” When you are doing that task Move that into “Doing” Once your task is finished Move it from “Doing” to “Done” So this will be very useful for you to track yourself As whatever work we do, most of the time whenever we work we don’t write things anywhere We simply just memorise them And a lot of times it happens so that We forget that particular work So if you use Trello effectively then you will become very organised Personally we use Trello a lot because there are some critical tasks Client projects and all need to be planned We can’t afford to miss certain points So that’s why We make notes as a “To Do” list And as and when we complete those tasks We keep moving them from “Doing” and to “Done” So it’ll be very helpful to you If you use Trello on a daily basis Your life will become better From these a lot of tools You can also use Like Trello and AirDroid Generally anyone can use them Unity Game Engine as I told Photoshop I said These are art and game development related If you are a full time artist And you are doing 3d art then 3ds max, Blender or Maya These are the three 3d softwares I am not an artist So I don’t use them In terms of code I use Visual Studio Community I get IntelliSense through it I have configured it with Unity So it’s easy for me to code I used to use Visual Studio Code for a long time I was very comfortable with VSCode But my team majorly Uses VSCommunity So I had to swtich So friends these are the tools That I use on a daily basis as a game developer I hope this was helpful So if you liked this video then press the like button If you are finding me for the first time then subscribe And press the bell icon so you don’t miss my future videos I make a lot of videos on games and game development That’s it for this video I will see you in my next video Until then take care 🙂

  1. If we can't keep our daily notes , activities, sketches in pc or Mac. We can also use galaxy Note series because you can do everything in this if you can't travel with pc and Mac. Also Samsung giving free Adobe tool in this.
